This is Megan’s second term on the Board where her creativity, dedication, and community spirit have made a lasting impact on the peninsula’s tourism landscape in a relatively short time. A “new Belizean,” Megan immigrated to Placencia with her family in 2017, drawn by the charm of coastal village life and the promise of new adventures. Together, they purchased and now operate Driftwood Gardens Guesthouse, a boutique accommodation known for its warm hospitality and authentic village vibes.
Beyond her business, Megan shares her family’s journey and insights on tropical living through her popular blog, RealLifeRecess.com, which captures the beauty, humor, and realities of life in Belize. Her writing has been featured in both local and international publications, further promoting Belize as a vibrant, welcoming destination for travelers and expatriates alike.
Megan’s contributions to the Placencia community extend far beyond tourism. A dedicated supporter of local charities and clubs, she has spearheaded numerous fundraising efforts for the Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department, including the creation of a now-iconic “sexy” firefighters calendar and the lively annual Floatchella event.
In her role with the BTIA, Megan founded Placencia Restaurant Week, a signature culinary celebration that highlights the peninsula’s diverse dining scene while stimulating business during a traditionally slower month. Her vision and leadership continue to inspire collaboration among local stakeholders, fostering growth that is sustainable and inclusive.
Passionate about preserving Placencia’s authentic charm, Megan remains deeply committed to showcasing and evolving the destination’s tourism product—ensuring it thrives while maintaining the essence that makes Placencia a truly unique and wonderful place to live and visit.
