Announcing the call to artists for the T-shirt art for Placencia’s Lobsterfest 2008: the highlight of the Placencia Tourism Center calendar year. We are looking for the most creative interpretation of a fun time. Of course our beloved Lobster should be the central part of the theme you choose to depict. Whether it is serious, fun, cartoon or abstract, we are encouraging as many entries as we can get. Here are this year’s official guidelines:
- Original artwork must be submitted to the Placencia Tourism Center before the Placencia Peninsula Arts Association Festival in February 2008. All judging will be done by popular vote that weekend. No exceptions.
- All artwork submitted is to be the artist’s original conception, design and execution.
- No age restrictions. Anyone can be creative, from one-year-olds to 110!
- Entries must be from a person residing in Belize.
- The Spiney Lobster must be included as part of the artwork theme.
- The winning entry will be used as the design theme for the event and printed on the front of the official Placencia Lobsterfest 2008 T-shirt, as well as any other promotions for the event.
- Please avoid any controversial content. At the PTC discretion this may disqualify your entry.
- Artwork will be judged by the illustration only. Any lettering included may be subject to alteration.
- No entries will be accepted from professional organizations.
- There will be no payments for entries submitted, beyond the contest winning award. All of our very valued entries will become the property of the Placencia Tourism Center and will be exhibited there for up to one year after the event.

The Placencia Peninsula Arts Association 5TH Annual Arts Festival was held, Feb. 9th and 10th, 2008.
The Festivities started at 10:00am and went until 6:00pm both days, with entertainment provided by a variety of musical talents. This is a great time for local and international artists to showcase their talents. Join us in 2009!
PLACENCIA BTIA ELECTS NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR 2008
Belize City, BELIZE, December 11, 2007:
The Placencia Chapter of the Belize Tourism Industry Association held its annual general meeting and elections on Friday December 7, 2007 at the Placencia Village Square.

The meeting included several interesting presentations from the BETEX 2008 committee, Total Business Solutions, Blackstone Consultancy, BRC Printing and Independence High School as well as several awards of recognition that were given to individuals in the Placencia BTIA that showed outstanding support of the local tourism industry. Head of Product Development at the Belize Tourism Board was on hand to give out the awards.

BTIA’s Executive Director, Andrew Godoy, was on hand to officiate the election which resulted in the new Board:

The finale of the meeting was the official opening of the new Placencia Tourism Center. BTIA president Rosella Zabaneh did the honors of cutting the ribbon and announcing the Placencia Tourism Center officially open. The Placencia Tourism Center was originally established in 2000 and has been providing a wide variety of services to both visitors and locals, including accurate tourist information, publication of a monthly newspaper The Placencia Breeze, coordination of events like the Placencia Lobsterfest and promotion of Placencia’s tourism product throughout Belize and the world.
Congratulations and best wishes go out to the new Board of the Placencia BTIA as well as the Placencia Tourism Center as they enter into this new era of tourism development.
